Flood Insurance For Farm Owners
Farmowner policies do not include coverage for damage to your property caused by floods. Damage caused by torrential rains could be very destructive to your property and without flood insurance you could suffer financially.
A National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policy typically includes coverage for: removing contents; sandbagging (to reduce damage); repairing flood damage and rebuilding; clearing away debris and mud; and compensating for personal belongings and business inventories.
NFIP Coverage limits are available up to:
- $250,000 on your residence, $100,000 on contents
- $500,000 on non-residential buildings, $500,000 on contents
It is important to note that not only high-risk areas are prone to flooding. Flooding can occur anytime and anywhere. Over 20% of NFIP flood insurance claims come from outside high-risk areas. It is also important to note that there is a 30-day waiting period between the time flood insurance is purchased and the time coverage is in force.
